Green Patch Mid-Season Update

As we make the transition into August, we are taking time to reflect on all of the ongoing success of this summer’s garden, as well as what is still in store for the 2025 Green Patch season. Overall, the garden has been functioning and performing very well thanks to the hard work, dedication, and creativity of our Green Patch team. After several weeks of hard work, we are finally beginning to see the fruits of our labour and enjoy all of the blooms and greenery on campus! By implementing new trellises, grow bags, and raised beds we have been able to maximize our production and grow more vegetables, while the addition of new hammocks, solar lights, and flowers have helped beautify the space and make the garden more welcoming. This year, we have also decided to grow some new types of vegetables which were not included in the garden in previous years. By doing this, we are hoping to serve a larger community, and donate a wider variety of produce to those in need. During the month of July, we were able to conduct some garden tours, including hosting folks from Regina Horticultural Society, and we also plan to make some large produce donations to YWCA and Carmichael Outreach Inc. as an ongoing initiative.

As for the remainder of the season, we are hoping to host a number of events, workshops, and presentations with a focus on promoting personal wellbeing and a healthy lifestyle, also known as our Summer Wellness Series. This includes, but is not limited to, topics such as physical and mental health, self confidence, healthy life balance, nutrition, and more. Finally, for our upcoming plans, we are in the process of putting together some canning, jam-making, and pickling workshops. Keep an eye on your inboxes and our social media pages for activities like this in the near future, as well as information on how to participate in these exciting, educational opportunities!
