About Seedy Saturday
Seedy Saturdays are annual community events held across Canada that celebrate seed saving, gardening, and local food security. Seedy Saturdays are fun, inexpensive events where you can swap and exchange seeds, get exciting varieties that other seed savers are sharing (as well as the stories that come with them), attend workshops and talks, meet vendors and buy seeds from seed companies. Whether you are a first-time or master gardener, seed enthusiast or expert seed saver, there really is something for everyone. Like many other cities across Canada, Regina hosts its own Seedy Saturday on the first Saturday of March each year. For many years, Regina Seedy Saturday was organized by Sharon Pratchler, the current Ombudsperson of Saskatchewan; however, Sharon passed this on to Tayef, who now organizes the event. This year's event is happening on March 7th, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Riddell Centre at the University of Regina. We invite you to join us with your family and friends to buy local seeds and other garden products. Admission is free.

Gardening Workshops
Composting 101
at 12 pm— Organic matter in the form of compost helps to build healthy soil in several ways! Compost becomes the glue that holds soil particles together to help form a structure in the soil that can hold moisture and air. It is a slow release fertilizer and helps to feed the soil food web. How can you begin to generate your own compost with organic household waste and garden waste? In this class we will talk about the benefits of compost and how to start building your first compost pile!
Seed Starting Workshop
at 1 pm— Seeds are living entities that contain everything a tiny seedling needs to germinate. Seeds from different plant families may have different requirements to germinate. Some are easy to sprout, some are incredibly hard and some only want to be direct seeded! In this class, Kim will demonstrate how you can easily start your own seeds, care for the young seedlings and transplant them out at the appropriate time!
Garden Planning Workshop
at 2 pm— Ensuring a successful year in the garden takes a bit of careful planning but once you have a plan created, it’s easy to execute year after year! Kim will explain how to choose a variety that works in your growing zone and how to design a crop rotation that works in your space. Once you know all of the tricks to planning, you will be able to build a garden that produces well and minimizes insect and disease pressure!
Presented By Kim Ross

KIDS LEARN TO GROW
Seeds and native plants are the foundation of the food web and many birds cannot survive without them. Project Play YQR and Bird Friendly Regina are excited to be joining Seedy Saturday for little ones to come and play, learn about seeds and gardening, and also how to help create bird-friendly spaces right here in Regina. We will have fun, hands-on activities where young nature lovers can sample some fruits and veggies that can be grown with seeds, while making their own simple bird feeder using a variety of seeds that birds rely on in the winter. Bring your bird feeder home to see what birds might visit!
Children of all ages are welcome to join us from 10am- 1pm for this multi-species-friendly, scrumptious Seedy Saturday!
