The Regina Public Interest Research Group (RPIRG) Board has appointed three new Board members to fill vacancies. These members will serve an interim term until April 30, 2025, or until their successors are elected, in accordance with the RPIRG Bylaws.

Chanchal Mitruka (she/her)
Chanchal Mitruka is an incoming Biology student at the University of Regina and a recipient of the Chancellor’s Scholarship. She has held numerous leadership roles, including President of her high school’s Student Representative Council, member of the RCMP National Youth Advisory Council, and advisor with Health Canada’s Youth Leadership Team. In each role, she has amplified youth perspectives and worked on initiatives focused on health, equity, and community well-being.
Chanchal’s volunteer work spans hospitals, senior living facilities, Regina Open Door Society and nursing agencies, where she dedicates her time to building connections, advocating for dignity in care, and addressing barriers to wellness. Her experiences as both a student leader and community volunteer have shaped her passion for social justice and her vision of healthcare that is accessible, compassionate, and equitable.
Chanchal looks forward to contributing her energy, lived experiences, and passion for community service to the RPIRG Board of Directors, advancing its mission of justice, empowerment, and change.

Esi Mensimah Ekwam (she/her)
Esi is a proactive Master of Public Administration student with a deep commitment to public service. She brings a unique blend of financial acumen from her previous experience as a Private Wealth Advisor and public sector experience in policy analysis and data integrity from her work within the Government of Saskatchewan. Her skills in research, program evaluation, and stakeholder engagement, together with a passion for community integration through volunteer work, align with RPIRG’s mission. Esi also brings a collaborative and detail-oriented approach to board-level responsibilities, supported by sound analytical skills. She loves to read during her leisure, learning about world history, culture, and politics to better understand political ideologies and the underpinnings of policies in global, regional, and country contexts.

Rashad Haque (he/him)
Rashad Haque is a community advocate and Master’s Certificate student in Indigenous Nation Building at the Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy. He recently completed a Bachelor of Social Work at the University of Regina and has worked with Mobile Crisis Services, the Ministry of Social Services, and Ranch Ehrlo. Rashad volunteers with the Matriarch’s Collective and the Muslim Food Bank, supporting unhoused individuals and families facing food insecurity. Living on Treaty 4 land, he is passionate about Indigenous rights, anti-oppressive practice, and creating welcoming, decolonized spaces through advocacy, equity, and community engagement.
