October is Sustainability Month!

October is Sustainability Month here on campus, and RPIRG has lots going on! To see what else is going on click here or visit the Facebook page.

The month will begin with a tabling fair, happening October 1 in the Riddell Centre, featuring varying sustainable groups from around the community. This will be a great chance to meet and talk with some of the groups working everyday for sustainable action!

Then on October 14, RPIRG will once again be hosting the Winter Cycling Workshop in partnership with Western Cycle and Bike Regina! This is the perfect chance to learn what it takes to cycle year round. Questions like: “What should I wear? How do I stay safe? and How do I equip my bike?” will all be answered during this time. After join the panel and find out what winter cycling is all about from a team of experienced panelists.

October 24 marks the RPIRG Annual General Meeting with a special presentation by Dr. Emily Eaton and her “Into the Belly of the Boom” lecture.  — “Saskatchewan is now the second largest oil producing province in the country. Its recent oil boom involves experimenting with a wide range of unconventional, energy intensive and risky production. We explore how this boom is re shaping rural life and we reflect on opportunities for building rural-urban movements.

Wrapping up the month we are honored to welcome Dr. Vandana Shiva to the University of Regina on October 28th, as she challenges and motivates us with her sharp intellectual inquiry and courageous activism. She is an environmental and anti-globalization activitist and in November 2010 was named by Forbes magazine as one of the Seven Most Powerful Women on the Globe.
